    One down 1000's to go

Well, I finished my first batch last night at ~9pm. Everything went far smoother than I expected, but I was pretty well prepared. The recipe was a partial boil extract from MWS "Black Dog Pale Ale". I had to wait for my wife to get off work before I could start the malt, but I prepared the 3...

    If you could start over...

i ordered this exact kit from MW on Monday afternoon (will be here tomorrow), as well as their Black Dog Pale Ale (amber) recipe. I already had the turkey fryer, so that just leaves me emptying bottles for the next three weeks (oh what a problem to have!! :) )

    fermenting buckets from hardware store

I used to be very much into saltwater reef aquariums, and using non-food-grade buckets or trashcans was always a huge NO-NO..but the real reason was the salinity of the water would break down the plastic, nothing noticible to the human eye, but it would leach toxic compounds into the water...

    newb ? on sanitization

Wow, that was quick...thanks folks. While we are on the subject, what is the easiest way to sanitize a carboy? I see the "60 second' sanitizers, and I was guessing you would put a gallon or so in the carboy, lay it on it's side and rotate it to sanitize the inside complete....again maybe I'm...

    newb ? on sanitization

looks like this weekend will be the big day for my first brew, and I have a pretty good idea of what I am doing (i've ready palmer, several times), lurked here quite a bit, and will have another set of instructions with my equipment coming from MWS. So, I'm pretty comfortable on how everything...

    Howdy from the Ozarks

I'm cookin tomorrow, so I'm several weeks out from needing bottles. So there is no hurry on bottles, but if I had a 2nd carboy I could cook another batch in a week or two, hence the need for a quick bottle supply. I'm a shriner, and I'm hopping to have a couple of different 6 or 12 packs of...

    Howdy from the Ozarks

Yeah, 10-3.....I'm not sure how they can afford to keep the building with those hours. I didn't realize coolstuff still sold anything. I knew they did years ago, but thought they had stopped. Do they have any equipment or bottles? I'm trying my best to have 50 empty bottles by bottling...

    Howdy from the Ozarks

absolutely....with this many mid-mo homebrewers why is there no lhms anywhere to be found? I called the place in Jeff City (muggsies?) and the answering maching says the store hours are 10-3 on Friday.....and that's it....

    First Timer

Hey all....I've been lurking around here for a few weeks and have recently decided to take the plunge a couple weeks ago. To start I have never been a beer drinker. There was no real reason for this, other than I had never aquired a taste for beer in my younger drinking days. For the better...
