    Question regarding cold crash process

My fermentation chamber (chest freezer) is in my garage and I typically bottle in the basement based on winter temps and a fear of what bugs might be floating around outside (warranted?). Anyways the first time I used the fermentation chamber I waited 3 weeks and then carried the fermenter...

First Time with Water Adjustment Evaluation

One additional question that I have is the Bru'n water spreadsheet seems to calculate all the additions based on total water volume. Does this not result in to high concentrations once I've boiled down to my final batch volume?

Yea fixing that up increases ph enough that acid addition is required in the mash. Thanks Gavin C.

First Time with Water Adjustment Evaluation

Thanks for the heads up on the mash volume. I have it correct on the adjustment portion but messed up on the page outlining the grain bill

First Time with Water Adjustment Evaluation

Thanks for the reply mabrungard. In order to drop the sodium to half I have to dilute with RO water at a ratio of 50/50. When I adjust this my calcium and sulfate values are quite low which can be corrected with 4.8 grams of gypsum. In addition I no longer need any acid to correct the mash ph...

First Time with Water Adjustment Evaluation

So I decided to look at my water profile using Bru'n Water to see if I should be adjusting anything. I plan on brewing the Bells 2 Hearted Clone Recipe from this site. After working my way through the sheets it looks like my water (without dilution) will be acceptable for brewing using the...

American Amber Ale Hoppy American Amber or Malty American Pale Ale?

I am unable to get golden naked oats from the retailers here in Canada. What is my best option for substitution? Flaked oats? Oat malt? Leave it out completely? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Thanks for the quick reply rhys333. I was mostly referring to my calculations. I have two mason jars filled identically so I'll just use some of the second to make up the difference to ensure I don't underpitch. Thanks again!

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Am I doing this correct? I have the following mason jar of slurry. I use the dump everything to the fermenter approach but use hop bags during the boil. I'm guessing this is half a jar of slurry so approximately 237.5 ml. If I assume 1.25B/ml I get just under 300B cells. Using mr Maltys...
