Stuck CO2 check valves- can they be cleaned?

Update- this worked great. I boiled for ~30 minutes, let them cool, sprayed with star-san and blasted some CO2 through them and they are working like new again. :rockin:

Stuck CO2 check valves- can they be cleaned?

Howdy all! Last night I discovered 2 of my 3 check valves in my manifold were stuck. Air pressure alone wouldn't open them, but they moved freely when pushed with a thin allen wrench. There appears to be some keg lube or something similar causing the balls to stick closed. I was thinking...

Star San is making me think twice about home brewing

I didn't see it mentioned yet, but the Star-San foam acts as a yeast nutrient, which is another reason it is safe to rack your beer/wort into a container that has some Star-San foam in it. I would not use bleach and water. you have to rinse it, which will negate the sanitation steps you just...

    Help for a kegerator newbie

A welding supply shop could probably take a look. they could probably sell you another regulator as well. that is what I would do. no one has ever said "damn, I wish I didn't have this spare regulator. " worst case, you could sell the extra one later.

Selling my all grain blichmann setup with keezer

I wouldn't sell it then. you are in buffalo so that jet ski will be unusable from October to April at a minimum, probably longer than that...unless you like jet skiing in freezing water.

    Selling Homebrew, Indiana

I'm not a lawyer, but my interpretation is: pitching yeast = making alcohol. Anyone can sell ingredients, but selling the final product is illegal. Once yeast is pitched, you have a final product. Even if the yeast died and you failed, you still tried to sell the final product, therefore...

    Selling Homebrew, Indiana

the federal TTB and your local ABC have tons of documentation. Bottom line- alcohol is a taxable and regulated product. Wort has no alcohol. Draw your own conclusions.

    Dual-Tap Kegerator - suggestions?

I bought a beermeister 3-tap kegerator last spring after spilling a couple gallons of beer on the floor and myself while bottling. I love it. I bought the home brew version which came with 3 corny kegs. it has worked very well for me. the dual tap home brew version starts around 750 including...

    Bottle to keg

if you are just testing the taps, why not use water or a starsan solution?

    Bottle to keg

yes, you can force carbon dioxide into the beer, but you will likely lose all head retention. once a beer foams, it won't foam again. the chances of pouring bottles into a keg without foaming are slim. even of you could pour perfectly, the amount of effort would greatly exceed the reward...

    Bottle to keg

There is nothing preventing you from doing it, but you will kill all of your carbonation and it can't be re-carbed.

    Brew pot lid.

How do pro breweries get rid of DMS? Their boil kettles are covered aren't they?

    Future of ball lock kegs?

I lucked out today, and picked up 3 ball-lock cornies from a coworker who doesn't brew anymore. $40 total! Woot!

    Future of ball lock kegs?

in my limited experience, ball lock seems far more common, but I'm certainly intrigued by the question.

    Kegging beer without CO2

if your keg is leaking pressure faster than residual yeast can create natural CO2 and pressure, then it is time to buy replacement gaskets/seals and rebuild your keg.
