Yeah I figured the rebar is going to scorch the wood a bit. I figured as long as I have a spray bottle handy and nothing ever flames out I'm fine with some scorching. Thanks man for the compliments though!
Also, i was considering another .5 lb of victory just to really pound on the nutty roasted notes, any opinions? I'm open to any an all critique....

not much experience in brewing all grain stout. here is my recipe and stats. I feel like the amount of malty-ness and the higher ABV means i need more IBUs to balance this out a bit more. I feel that 8.0 % abv , 1.089 OG and 37.1 IBUs is going to yield a super malty beer... any thoughts? I just...
The shelf is just a spot to take notes and such. Not a load bearing tool just more of a convenience thing.
Did a dry run with just water last week. Brought it to a boil but didn't run for a full hour. First batch will be next week. Just a BIAB, building a mash tun in the next month or so...
I think the real difference in the rebar is that it's half inch. It's pretty stout stuff. However if I do start running into issues what suggestions do you guys have to alter this thing?
It's finished my brew rig this morning. Last step was the mash paddle. I diy'ed the stand, keggle, paddle and a few other handy items along the way. Most just proud of my work But i also wanted to post the build and maybe give back a little to the community that has helped me so much in the last...
I posted last week about building my brew stand and after a few design changes I have nearly completed the project. I moved some boards farther from the burner, reinforced the method for holding the keg with rebar and added a head/wind screen. I still think the boards around the burner may need...
So I think I might go with the rebar thing for more support. I did a 15 gal test. It held but with heat I doubt it will hold. Here is a pic with the keg in place. Any suggestions on heat shielding the 2x4 around the keg?
My first though is the boards on the sides of the keg may be too close...
I am putting the finishing touches on my brew stand and I wanted to know if the metal I've used can stand up to the heat. I used aluminum for the metal bracket the supports the keg. The propane burner is also directly below and I am not positive the aluminum will hold up to the heat. What do you...
Have a simple question...
Brewing a partial mash recipe that has been in the primary for about three weeks. According to my gravity reading, the fermentation is done. While it was fermenting i kept a damp tshirt over the carboy to keep the temp around 67. Now that fermentation has...
Just got done building one I saw in an online forum. They used a PVC coupler for the center ring. A soon as I finished it dawned on me... PVC prob cannot hold up to boiling temps. Anyone used a PVC spider or know if Im going to melt this thing with it sitting on my kettle?
Hey guys just getting everything together for my first All Grain BIAB batch...
I'm using a 30 plate wort chiller and hop pellets. Obviously i dont want the trub going through my plate chiller and mucking up the whole process. My question is, will a hop spider (with a paint strainer bag)...
Like to hear some people weigh-in....
Thermometers for my keg:
Digital probe Thermometer OR Dial Thermometer with weld-less fitting?
Some guys i've spoken with say the dials get inaccurate readings since they sit inside a sleeve and the mash/wort that is in that sleeve may be effecting...
