    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm about to get back into brewing after an 18 month-ish break. I think I might join the 1-Gallon brewers club this time haha :D . My previous brewing experiences were with 25L (6.6G) batches of extract brewing. I'm currently living in an unreasonably hot (32c / 90f +) part of Australia and...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

44,309 Wow, I've been gone longer than I thought... Better make a contribution to this year, 6g of Blonde Ale =44,315

How long is too long in the fermenter?

Mmm, looks like 20k old engine oil - not too much bacteria though... (yes, that is a world cup promo football holding up the glass shelf) I should probably drink this... A pour held up infront of a candle. It's supposed to be a very light blonde... I should probably drink...

How long is too long in the fermenter?

No worries mate, had a few ales already, totally game to take a sip from the fermenter right now.

the most you ever paid for beer

Spent $18AUD on a 500ml "Sail & Anchor Changing Tides Barley-Wine Ale". Gotta love beer prices down here. Not a bad brew, but 7/8ths are still in the bottle. I really enjoy very strong/distinct drinks, but think I've found my limit at barley-wines haha.

    Any other gamers here?

Got a new PC a few weeks ago, back on a Skyrim (with way too many mods) binge. Probably will go back to Total War or Dominions when (or if) I get bored of it.

How long is too long in the fermenter?

So I got very lazy bottling my beers recently... I've had a pale ale/blonde sitting in the fermentor for around six months now, at about 16*C (61F). It's estimated at about 4%abv, and quite light on hops. Since it doesn't smell or look horrific, what are the chances it would turn out to...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Probably Maxx Blonde, I've had quite a few of them as the local bottle shops often almost give them away with the purchase of a six-pack of other beer. They're very malty (in a bad way) and have a stale/damp kind of taste, can't think of any reason why anyone would buy them on purpose.

    Ugly Americans (cartoon)

I've recently watched both seasons and really enjoyed them, season 1 probably was a bit better than the second season, but I'd still be happy to re-watch it all again in the future. Never heard of Archer before, might have to check it out.

    Inner Redneck

Slipped on my thongs, admired my mullet, drank a VB, and put some Bundy rum stickers on the Falcon. (None of which is - or ever will happen, just entertaining the thought of being a bogan/redneck for the day haha)

    Lowering my FG?

Thanks, getting warmer temperatures here isn't a problem, I was thinking of taking my current IPA out of the brew fridge and gently giving it a stir then letting it sit until it's done. I've been cold-crashing for my last 3 brews but am thinking of skipping it this time (I can only fit 1...

    Cooper's IPA

I did a very similar recipe a while back: Coopers IPA 4.4%abv Bottled 14/02/13 25/01/13 1.044 05/02/13 1.015 14/02/13 1.015 Extract Tin 1.7kg 1.5kg Coopers Light LME Coopers Ale Yeast 7g Fill to 23L Can't remember if that was the abv before or after allowing for carbonation...

    Lowering my FG?

Just wondering if anyone has any tips to lower my FG or get better attenuation? It's not even really a problem I don't think, but using programs like Hopville/Brewtoad I often have my recipe being called 'out of style' for having my FG too high. I'm brewing with extract, the two yeasts I...

Just bought a bench capper and bottles get stuck after capping..

Mine always get stuck fairly firmly, I gently pull the bottle down and sideways a little and it drops out, just don't wrap your finger under the base of the bottle when you do it ;)

    Just tasted my...

I tried something experimental about 6 months ago, a blonde style ale with Asian herbs and spices (Chilli, lemongrass, corriander seeds, etc). Tried one a few weeks after bottling and it was pretty terrible - way too much lemongrass was the major problem. I've had a few tonight, they're not...
