If it only holds EXACTLY 5 gal, then I'd be hesitant. I am pretty stubborn though and I'd probably try. I would definitely use a blow off tube instead of a traditional airlock.
Thanks, guys. I agree with you. It's kinda pointless. I'm always trying to think of ways to be more efficient because I believe that it helps me learn more about the process and keeps me on my toes as far as innovation. I was trolling the forums yesterday and I was bored. Almost immediately...
So this is not a deep topic by any means, and I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it (no, I didn't search it), but I just thought of it.
What would be the downside to pitching your yeast in the wort while it's still in the boiler (obviously after it has chilled to the appropriate temp)...
You remove the pee trap airlock altogether and replace it with a long tube, of which the other end is completely submerged in a sanitized bucket of water. The reason for this is that the Krausen can be strong enough to shoot that little airlock to the ceiling (yes, i'm speaking from experience).
I wish someone would have told me to watch the videos on youtube, rather than read. You be surprised how far off what you envision can be from how it's really done.
I might even do the same one again. Just to compare. Afterall, consistency proves skill, right?
Who am I trying to kid? I didn't do this when I just started. I think my second was probably a Honey Cream Ale. Turned out awful. I recommend sticking with beers you know well (at least in...
Thanks, Daksin. I think I will provide the walk through. This will be a good exercise, since I probably do a lot of things in my routine as second nature. Perhaps I'll even catch myself doing something wrong.
I'll be brewing here in a couple of days. I'll update you.
lol. I have. ...and you know what equals love? Probably not appropriate, but I got tired of using all of the common beer quotes - I haven't seen anyone use this one yet.
Even though I firmly believe in full batch boiling - I wouldn't try it on the stove. It's a pain in the alternative word for "donkey" and if you boil over - you will have fun cleaning it. Otherwise, have fun!
