    In my experience you have to heat up the cooler with 1 gal of water for a couple of minutes before you add all the water.This happened to a few friends of mine.

    I do BIAB and get my numbers.Time,temp,PH,and crush all have a roll in getting your numbers.I mash for 90 minutes as well.

    Phenols in the starter???

    Correct.Once i made a starter from White labs WLP 004 Irish ale yeast.Smelled like lager yeast(Farts),that only happened that once and my beer was fine.

    If you pitched the right amount of yeast the first time around you should'nt worry that it was stressed out.Thats why you need a higher yeast count with higher ABV beers,so you dont stress out the yeast.

    Never used that yeast before.But the band aid flavor is most common from using bleach as a sanitizer.What did you use as a sanitizing agent?
