    NYC Brewpubs

New York City doesn't really have any brewpubs, that I know of. Heartland Brewery does not count. It is a NYC "brewpub" chain that has BMC versions of Kelso. Kelso is brewery based in Brooklyn, which has some great beers IMHO. Kelso actually brews the beers for Heartland, but the Heartland...

My washed yeast has a lot of trub in it

I just started washing my yeast and had this happen to me once. What I did was gently shake the jar to get the yeast and trub back into solution, watched it settle out and when it looked like all the trub had settled, pour off the top liquid into another jar. Worked for me and I don't think...

    Questions on Splitting a Starter

I recently started to wash yeast and also recently began to make starters. Washing yeast isn't a complete pain in the butt, but it can be time consuming and can only be done a debatable amount of times to a strain of yeast. Chatting away at lunch today with one of my brew buddies I came up...

Whole Foods 50% Off Coupon (Some have HB shops)

Living Social is offering a 50% off Whole Foods. For $10 you get $20 towards Whole Foods. Some of the Whole Foods (like the one on Bowery in NYC) have Beer Rooms that have a decent (not great) selection of home brew ingredients and supplies. I try to support my LHBS, but this deal is very...

    My first bad brew day...

I would have left it in, but I was at my parents and only brought the equipment I thought I needed. I had no other way to seal the bucket and am not going back to my place until tomorrow. The grommet was sanitized, so it shouldn't affect the beer.

    My first bad brew day...

A three day weekend? That sounds like the perfect time to brew...except I am spending most of it at my parents house. That's ok, I can brew there! My Dad always takes an interest in my hobbies and after tasting some of my brews, he wanted to be part of the process. What a perfect...

Pretty Things - St. Botolph's Town

Pretty Things makes some mighty tasty brews IMHO. I find that they take styles I enjoy and do something special and different to the style to give it some extra flair that I usually really like. I have never had the St. Botolph's Town, but I will keep an eye open for it now. Thanks for the...

Building a Fermentation Cabinet (in the eye of the storm)

Best of luck. I would offer my assistance, but I did not get my ark completed in time.

    Anyone just feel that earthquake?

Ditto! Now my brew is required to have an earthquake themed name.

Fruit Beer: To Stir or Not to Stir

I don't have the dates in front of me, but I believe it was just shy of 4 weeks, which was actually about a week longer than I planned, but life happens.

Fruit Beer: To Stir or Not to Stir

What form were the apricots when you racked? Purreed? Mashed? Whole? How much apricot for how big of a batch? How much fruit flavor are you looking for? EDIT: Just saw you answered these in your 2nd post. I wouldn't think you need to stir. Puree should be good. Was this for a 5 of 10...
