Question for SS Brewtech 1/2 bbl Chronical Owners

Very nice! And you'll still get to see the Chronical  My fridge is a crummy ancient thing that came with the house. I'm going to give it a makeover and turn it into a kegerator :D

Question for SS Brewtech 1/2 bbl Chronical Owners

The dimensions are pretty much spot on - exactly 18 including the legs, and pretty close to 38 with the standard lid (I can't be as precise on that as mine has the FTSs2 lid on it at the moment which is shallower, so I measured the standard lid separately). Of course you'll need head space for...

    Beers from England

As an ex-pat Brit, I'd suggest Fullers 1845, which should be readily available. Alternatively, Timothy Taylor Landlord (mentioned above) is very good. Best of all though, if your friend can get it, Hook Norton 12 Days. It's a winter seasonal - I had a case delivered to my parents so I could...

Brewing an Oatmeal Stout next weekend (steeping grains, etc); Any tips??

I brewed a Sam Smith's Oatmeal clone recently - the one firm recommendation I'd make is to set up a blow-off tube rather than using an airlock, at least until the initial fermentation has calmed down. It was only my fourth batch, but I'd never had Krausen like it.

How do you transfer wort from the kettle to the fermenter

I pour back and forth several times to aerate, then finally pour through a paint strainer bag to collect any crud. Also use a hop bag, so there's usually not a huge amount. I've been fermenting in buckets so far though, so no funnel required.

When should I rack this puppy...

I made this as my first batch - as I recall the instructions suggested leaving it on the yeast for longer if fermented at ale temps. I left it for two weeks in primary, then another two in secondary after racking off the trub. Tasted really quite good when I bottled a couple of weeks back - I'm...

Using a tea-ball for my hops.. boog/bad idea?

You could build yourself one of these: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/wiki/index.php/Hop_Bag Used mine for the first time last Sunday, and it did a pretty good job. 5 mins to put together, too, all with bits you can pick up at your local Home Depot.

    Need help choosing first kettle

I did my first brew on the stovetop with a partial (2.5gal) boil in a 5gal kettle. It was a slow and frustrating experience! Did my second brew (full 5 gal boil) with this pot: http://www.instawares.com/stainless-steel-stock-pot-sps-40.upi-sps40.0.7.htm outside on a bayou burner. So much more...

Brew pot for a full boil...

I picked up a 40qt SS pot from Instawares (this one: http://www.instawares.com/stainless-steel-stock-pot-sps-40.upi-sps40.0.7.htm) for about $100, and some weldless kit from brewhardware.com, and can recommend both. The pot took a little over a week to ship, but was delivered next day when it...

    12" Wide 7.5 gal Kettle?

Is there any benefit to the brewer in having a tall, narrow kettle? I've just bought a 10gal kettle - plan to use it Sunday. It's short and wide (like the author), so I'm curious if there's any down-side.

    Will this brew pot work?

I went with a Bayou SP10 and a separate 40qt pot from a restaurant supply place (instawares.com) after having a miserable time trying to get 2.5gal to boil on my stove for my first brew. If you're looking for a kit though, this might fit the bill: http://www.bayouclassiccooking.com/oucose.html...
