    Just bought black malt which has a color of 1400EBC (700L). Is this even possible?

    SRM = EBC x 0.506 also, SRM = °L x 1.3546 - 0.76 therefore °L = EBC x 0.375 + 0.56 As you can see 1 SRM is not equal to 1 °L.

    Just bought black malt which has a color of 1400EBC (700L). Is this even possible?

    Yes, it's possible. Weyermann's Carafa III and Thomas Fawcett's black malt, for instance, are both around 1400 EBC, which is about 525 °L or 711 SRM.

    Brew room phrase needed

    All hop abandon, yeast who enter beer. And that, kids, is how I came up with my user name. And yes, I know it's lame :)

    European regulator question

    In the International System of Units, better know as the metric system, the unit of pressure is Pascal, or Pa. 1 Pa = 1 Newton per square meter. 1 bar is defined as 100,000 Pa. Why would we want to do this? Well, 1 bar is roughly atmospheric pressure at sea level (1.01325 bar according to the...

    Dutch Beer Week- Try a fellow HBTer's beer!

    How did you convince the owners to put your beer up there? How did the customers like it? Did they know it was not a commercial brew? Shame I didn't have time to go België on Sunday, I wanted to try out your beer. Good for you the keg kicked so quickly I guess :mug:

    How drunk have you gotten off your own supply?

    The worse my beer turns out, the drunker I tend to get. I drink no more than two or three beers per night if my beer turns out really well so it'll last longer. If the beer is not so good, I want to get rid of it and free up the kegs ASAP for something else. Unfortunately, I've had quite a few...

    Any Brewer in Holland/Belgium/Germany

    Your best options are Brouwmarkt and Van Der Kooy. They usually deliver within two days of ordering. Brouwland is good too, but shipping is a bit more expensive, and takes longer since they're in Belgium. Sometimes I order stuff in the UK (Malt Miller or The Home Brew Shop), that's where I get...

    Fermentation Fridge

    I use a 16" by 35" 68W terrarium heating pad, like this one: I wrap it around loosely the bucket (it doesn't touch the plastic) and let it do it's magic. 68W is more than enough.

    Caramel/Crystal malts substitutes

    Like gbarron said, googling "malt subsitution chart" will give you plenty of info. I usually look at this page since I use Weyermann crystal malts almost exclusively. For instance, I'm planning on brewing a version of NB's Caribou Slobber which uses Crystal 60L and 80L, and I'm using...
