another earthquake? Is it just me or have there been a ton of big ones recently?

Technically, it wasn't an aftershock but you probably know that...

HB shook for about a minute. Haven't felt one like that in a while.

Well, the one in Chile was positively massive. There will probably be many more over the coming years as the Pacific and Nazca plates re-settle.

Have a friend visiting Mexicali, right at the epicenter. Says her cat was totally freaked. How could she tell?

She could tell because everything started shaking like crazy. :D
If you are referring to the cat seeming to know before it hit, I dunno how that works, maybe more sensitive to very slight vibrations?

I felt it out here in Maricopa, the water in the pool was sloshing pretty good, almost knocked over my beer too...Oh wait that was me knocking into the patio table after getting another hardboiled egg.

My folks' have a house in El Centro-pretty much trashed the place, including a few thousand $ worth of antique porcelain & a WW1 era stein that I've had my eye on for several years. A little ticked at the lack of press coverage about how bad the damage is in Imperial county...

Hey guys, I just got back from El Centro where my in-laws live. What a freaking mess! Everything in the house got broken and there were some cracks on walls. Thankfully no one got hurt but the room my kids sleep in had tons of **** thrown all over. They would have totally gotten hurt if we had been home! Anyway, I'm glad to be out of there and back home in the SF Bay Area where we never have those things... oh wait... crap!

Some pics from my folks' place when they got back to El Centro from Eureka yesterday. Luckily our pet desert tortoise was with them in Eureka. The house itself fared pretty well (only a minor crack in one of the sidewalls), but the interior didn't hold out as well:
