I'm heading to Washington DC at the end of July, are the any "must stop by" brew pubs in the area. We will be staying at 1400 Penn Ave. so it will need to be kinda close to there, or at least close to the trains. I know the White House has some homebrew but I doubt they will let me in to try any.

Well you'll be about a mile away from the Brickskeller... or what used to be the Brickskeller. They used to boast a 1000 bottle beer list. I haven't been since it was sold but the beerlist still looks respectable. You can look at it here: http://www.lovethebeer.com/beer-list.html. Address is at the bottle of the page.

Churchkey is also pretty decent. I attended a Surley Brewery tasting there last year and had a cask of Furious that was dry hopped with centennial(?) that was pretty awesome.

So that's two about a mile away... walk there, cab back :) No guarantees on a good experience... ;)

Not alot of brewpubs in DC. There are Capital City and The Chop house which are ok but not great. You should go ti the Churchkey which is a fantastic beer bar. The metro will get you within walking distance of anywhere you need to go.

You beat me to it. The Brickcellars "1000" beer bottle list was always more like 500.

Try the wonderland ballroom - not a brew pub, but a good local with good beers (commercial) on tap and oh yeah, the bars has loads of good attitude...

If you are flying in to BWI, DuClaw Brewing Co. has a brew pub in Arundel Mills Mall. It's less than 5 miles from airport.
