Default Splitting Cherries

I'm about to do a chocolate cherry oatmeal stout. Has anyone split the cherries in half before the addition to the primary to increase the surface area?

never tried that, but ive pulverized them. this increased surface area exponentially. dont forget to pasteurize your fruit.
