I need to remove a faucet from one shank and put it on another, but I don't have the faucet removal tool. I tried with my hands and that didn't pan out and I don't want to try with a pipe wrench because I don't want to scratch it, anyone have any tips on how best to do this.

BTW The faucet wrench is in the mail, but I need this together by tomorrow for a party and it won't be here till monday... figures!

Pliers. Wrap a couple of layers of electrical tape around the nut, or if you have some of that non-skid stuff that you put in drawers just use a small piece of that to protect the connecting and provide a grippable (is that a word?) surface.
