So....part of being a nurse is that we do 12 hour shifts.......
So....part of being in the military is that we cycle said shifts between nights
(7pm-7am) and days (7am-7pm) every 6 weeks.....
So....I'm on nights now....and IT SUCKS!
Expect me to post WAY more, and be a MUCH bigger drunk for the next month+......BTW.....here is what I look like----->

Anyone want to brew a Silver Bullet Clone???

Nights suck. I'm just at the tail end of my night shift in the ED (hour 11). I got pounded all night. Feel like I'm going to die right now. Saw 21 patients in the first 6 hours of my shift, and it just keeps going. . .

DAAAMN! I work in a pretty slow ICU (often get floated to MedSurg- which PISSES me off!) so I can post on my shifts on....but what do you do on your nights off?! Watching movies/TV only goes so far....?

I drink. .. or brew stuff to drink. :mug:

Patients still coming in. 20 minutes to go. Maybe I can pawn them off on the morning doc. . . . .

HA! I'm all about "packing/wrapping" patients up for the next shift.....but in an ICU you always get that, "Hey, they did great all night" and end up coding someone at 0830. Like they say, "Keeping them alive....12 hours at a time....;) "

Steve what branh of the Mil you with, I was Nvy stationed out in Lemoore CA for a while. I understand your pain of working 12's and working nights, but when youare floating in a big gray tin can what else you got to do right?

Navy, at Camp Pendleton....I'm pretty much on shore duty, so I shouldn't complain;) I totally understand what you mean about being on a ship...no beer, brewing, internet; nothing but a gym, galley, and your workspace! (nothing to do but work, work out, and sleep!) But hey....it STILL beats being stuck in the desert!:)

Yeah, no more nights for me. I worked my last night shift this past Saturday. I did just work three 14 hour shifts at the hospital but at least I got to sleep at night. Working nights wears you down. Good Luck, and remember when you are drinking at 8 in the morning that it is happy hour somewhere and you are not an alcoholic(unless you don' t work nights, then you need help):tank:

I can't belive that I joined 8 years ago and have been out for three now, time flies. anyway sorry to highjack, NIGHT SHIFT SUCKS, Just to stay on topic!

Congrats, man! Now THAT's something worth celebrating! I'm at 9 yrs active, and will have 13 when everything is said and done. I'll probably be a lifer, just because I'll be so close to retiring at 20 yrs.....but who knows?....they may screw me over, and I may screw them right back and get out!;) :D

At my last station I was doing 12 hour shifts: 3 days, 3 'off', 3 nights, 3 'off' Where 'off' means a 9-6 during the week. Combine that with living in the West Indies without A/C, I didn't need any zombie juice! Lost 35 pounds in the first 6 months.

I work pretty much all nights. Usually 11-7, but sometimes 3-11. I hate it. I always feel tired and I can never get into a steady sleep schedule. Been doing this rotating thing for 16 years. It is getting really old.

Lol I'm on days but I'm trying to get on nights I hate getting up that early. Also I've decided the ICU is a no go for me so I'm gonna stay on telemetry for a while and maybe shoot for OR after that.

Nights isn't such a bad deal as a civilian...at least you make more...up to $4 more/hr! I gotta do it because they said so! ICU can be kinda crazy.....if you learn ICU well, you can get a job in pretty much any area of nursing you want. I've considered OR, but all we do is circulate. Surgical techs get to do the cool stuff...:D
