Is there a specific brew log that you prefer? I'm using Brewer's Logbook from Basic Brewing. I have put it to great use, but have about filled it up. If it were my design, there are a few areas where I would make improvements though. Do any of you have a favorite brew log that you use and would recommend?

I just use beer smith and a moleskine (cheap one) to jot down notes and such. Most notes are now in BS, but I still put pen to paper even after I bought BS.

I cut and paste a bunch of different ones to form this. Wish I could get a better pic or scan it.

I like beersmith since everything is on the PC version and you can easily add notes/ fill in information as you get it. I do have a small leather cover book that SWMBO bought me at a fare and it's a nice thing to write in. I write the recipe down and any important notes.

It sounds like Beersmith is a winner. I wonder what the pro brewers use. I don't have Beersmith yet, but will be checking out all the other logs mentioned. Thanks y'all. :D

Google docs. It is less structured like beersmith, but things like that are overkill for me. I just needed something simple that was available everywhere. I can make / read notes at work or where ever I am which is more important to me than a formal log type of app / book.

I use BeerSmith for recipe creation but I feel the notes/brew logging in BeerSmith are lacking something and that's where BrewToad fits in for me.

A fresh piece of paper and a pen. I was using logs but find I'd rather just write it all out.

I use BeerSmith's log feature as well, but I find it doesn't let me record everything that I want to.

So I created an Excel template that I've been tweaking and tuning for a couple of months. It records everything I want to, and automatically calculates:

- temperature-corrected hydrometer readings
- ABV
- apparent attenuation
- real attenuation

It also lets me record dates and times of each step of the process.

BeerSmith also sucks at recording what mineral additions I make to mash and sparge water.

I like making my recipe in Brewer's Friend, shopping, adjusting the recipe for what the LHBS had and then copying it into my brew "bible", a leather bound book of the Radical Brewing brew sheets. I don't trust myself to have technology around a brew day.

Until I find what I want in a brew log, it sounds like I'll just have to make my own. I do like having a book form brew log. I can add notes and data to the log while I'm brewing, without having a computer in the way.

My wife has dozens of journals that she's gotten as gifts and hasn't gotten around to filling up yet, I just grabbed one of those. I like it.

I use the brewers friend calculator online to make sure I'm in style range or just to know if I'm a bit to heavy on hops or other variables.
I like to have a physical copy of my recipes and notes just for a piece of mind. Never know when the CPU will take a dump and you lose everything.
I have always been a fan of taking notes and I like stickers so I put the two together and came out with something a little like this.

Wow that is a nice looking log book! Pretty cool with all the stickers and stuff as well. You have good handwriting. If you re-brew do you just add on the back or do you start a new page? It's funny this thread resurfaced because I found my old "log book" yesterday. It started as my car maintenance manual and gas price log...then turned into a brew book that I lost for years...

When I re-brew I start a new page I actually cut and glue a beer judging sheet on the back of each recipe. In that pic I didn't have a taste sheet posted because that one was still in primary! That way I can write my tasting notes down and some what judge how the recipe tasted to my liking!

That is a nice brew log. Looks like something you could market. I like my brew log the way it's laid out, but I'd like to add a few things like water additives. I wonder how expensive it would be to make up my own brew log and bind it?

Honestly not too much just make your log to your liking, make copy's and take em to kinkos or staples and I'm sure they bind em. Shoot em a call never hurts!

Before I settled on writing it all out I took a brew template online and printed a few, kept em in a 3 ring binder.

But discovered I'd rather write it all out, and since I'm on brew #5 I'm starting to learn from my notes.
Not making the same mistakes and getting my routine down!!

There's a Kinko's (now FedEx) close by. Maybe I'll stop by, tell them what I want and ask what it would cost. Those brew notes are really important. I like to go back and look at my past brews of certain recipes to determine if and how I want to adjust the recipe.
