Based on the facts that he's using a different alias here than Dustin did, and that the site he posted a link to does not give any credit to the original author, that seems pretty unlikely.

In that case, I would encourage everyone NOT to use (link removed) and to use yeastcalculator.com instead. The latter at least credits Dustin for his work.

Personally, aside from not giving attribution to the originator of Yeastcalc, I would not be concerned to use the newly posted site. That is, if I didn't already have it stored offline :D

I don't think anyone should be concerned. I'm not. But I find it rather curious that someone just registered the domain today, and has posted all of one post on here HBT.

True, true..... and hasn't chimed back in with all of these follow-up replies/

That is how I felt. Riding the coattails of the original creator who obviously disappeared without giving credit is a dbag move. At least the guy who mirrored the domain gave credit and did so only to help people. This guy looks like he is going to try to just pick up where someone left off without giving any credit to the one who did the work. It's lazy and disrespectful. I wonder if the guy who did that and posted here once doesn't have another account here and just didn't want to post under his real ID.

I would just personally not use the site and I hope wherever else he advertised his copy of the site also picks up on this and doesn't visit.

I haven't sorted this offline yet, I couldn't get it to work quite on my mac, but I'm glad someone else mirrored it, and gave credit. I prefer the site over mrmalty now.

Well, he did the same that I and one or two others have, posted the calculator elsewhere. He lacked a bit of tact here posting with a new account and not crediting the original author, but it appears that he has corrected that now.

If he had posted it with a ton of ads on the page, he would certainly deserve some flak, but now we just have another site to use in case one of the other mirrors is down. :fro:

Yeah, I saw on Reddit that someone mentioned his crediting the original author. That was all that was needed. Otherwise, it seemed shady to me.

I believe the issue here guys is taking something that doesnt belong to you without permission, and is not ok doing it just because you are crediting the author. Anyway the website was put in a hurry, that was why i didnt put any credits initially, and i intent to recreate the calculator in html5 from scratch as soon as i figure the formulas for c.white and jamil growth rates.
I posted with a new account because i wanted to avoid all this conflict, but it seems i failed miserably

Has anyone been able to contact the true owner of the program? I recall someone trying to do that earlier in the thread. Somebody should try to get in contact with him and ask for permission to post it online, or maybe offer to host it for him, since it appears the yeastcalc.com domain is just parked. The whois data shows it having been registered through Jan 2015. Anyone have web hosting with room for one more domain?

Yes, i tried sending him a PM here and sent an email to the (obuscated) address listed in the whois data. No response, unfortunately.

I have recreated the calculator in html so it will work on devices that dont support flash. I have uploaded a beta here: http://yeastcalc.co/pitchratecalculator.php
If anyone could provide help on the formulas for C.White and Jamil's methods of aeration it would be appreciated

That's an awesome effort so far. While the numbers between the html and flash versions don't match, they are at least in the ballpark. Also, I'd like to see the calculated values update automatically via javascript or other technology. Excellent effort so far though!!

Well, it is appreciated that you credited the original creator for sure. At least by me as I speak for no one else. I also like the idea of recreating it in HTML5, solid call as I use my iPad more and well, that's Apple. ;) Posting under a new name in fear of conflict sort of suggests you may have known it would absolutely create issue. I say always post under you and if you think it will be a problem then don't do it. :D Another member already put up a mirror site so technically there was no need. But recreating it in HTML 5 is indeed a solid move.

I have unlimited lifetime hosting and can support another domain. I couldn't reach Dustin S myself so I just figured someone smarter would do something about this. Many thanks to those who are trying to keep it alive. Hopefully the guy returns and at least gives permission to allow a site or two to mirror his work.
