What type of DME does everyone use when creating a yeast starter?? Have you found that different types effect the flavor of the beer?

I am quite happy with Briess Pilsen Light DME for starters no matter the beer type. I am not sure it imparts any flavor at all...

Same here I use light dme 90% of the time. The only other time I didn't use it I used wheat dme for a starter for a hefe but I'm sure light dme would've also been fine.

If you're pouring off the liquid it won't matter at all. Even if you keep the liquid it is about 1/3 of a gallon when all is said and done of a 5 gallon batch. You won't notice it.

I use the lightest DME that the store has myself.

the few AG batches i've done.. i have just used a cup of extra light or light DME. that way the color wont affect my full batch. flavor is negligible because of such a small amount.
