I'm making a hard root beer and it calls for nothingham ale yeast. My LHBS said I could use us-05 and it would be okay. Well I had to use the us-05 fir something else and can't get to my LHBS because of a site storm. I do have red star active dry for baking bread, can I use the red star or will it produce off flavors.

You could but I wouldn't........

Depending on the ABV it's quite possible the bread yeast won't survive as well

Abv should be around 5 or 6 abv. Will that kill it or no?

It'll work but it won't taste as clean as notty or 05, it flocs poorly, and only makes a very loose & dusty layer that easily kicks up and makes your drink cloudy.

cool thanks all, depending on how bad it is early I may be making a run tomorrow before it gets too bad. At least I'll be able to brew while I'm snowed in. :)

Lol I'll take your guys advise.
