So I wanted to gather some opinions. I've never used yeast nutrients during my brewing but I have never had an issue either. I understand the idea of doing everything you can to help your yeast. I can see where nutrients might come in handy on big beers or beers with high percentage of adjuncts, but are they nessecary if you have a modest grain profile without too much unmodified adjuncts? Does anyone notice a significant improvement in beer quality/fermentation using nutrients?
 
I generally ferment on the cool side of the yeast I am using, so a healthy starter is always a good idea even if the beer isn't a "big" beer. I add a little nutrient to everything I brew these days, and still get nice clean ferments. YMMV
 
I almost always do a starter using DME and a stir plate. Just wanted to know if it was worth adding to my routine. I feel like it's inexpensive, so the answer is why wouldn't you if it could help. Then again that's why I'm gathering opinions.
 
I started adding it to my boils about a year ago. I can't say I have seen any noticeable improvement in any way. I also make DME based starters for nearly all beers. I have never added nutrient to a starter.
 
I've only ever added it to ciders and wines but I can see it could have its place in big beers. I would expect to add it mid-ferment though to give the yeast an extra bit of help.
