Hello! My girlfriend and I have been obsessed with Founder's Dark Penance: black ipa and I can't find it in bottled anywhere. I have an extract Clone that meets the stats perfectly. I've brewed several other things but this will be my first ipa and I have no idea what yeast to pair it with. I saw in a post somewhere on here that Founder's uses whitelab, that's about all I know.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I usually stick with wyeast liquid packs because that what the store near me has.

I'd probably go with 1056: clean profile, good with stouts and pale ales. Can't go wrong!

Think I would need one or two packs?

depends on your gravity and if you make a starter. if using 1056 for a black "IPA", I'd probably make a starter since the gravity will be a bit higher than the smack pack is recommended for. if using US-05, probably 2 packages for the same reason. don't stress the yeast and the yeast won't stress your taste buds!:rockin:

Calculates the OG at 1.087

Thank you, a starter would be helpful

I'm thinking of using 1450

I like WLP090 for my black IPA. Mine is an imperial with an OG of around 1.1. I would suggest you make a starter and begin with a large cell count, assuming you are shooting for a big beer.
