When we were doing the final step of our first batch of beer, some of the yeast exploded out of the tube. It said to shake it. It was like when you open a soda and some fizzes out. I am concerned that we lost to much yeast to make a good batch. This ever happen to anyone?

I normally use Wyeast and haven't had a problem, but I have had that happen with White Labs vials in the past, and I know other folks have as well. As a general rule (with very limited exceptions), beers using liquid yeast are going to require a yeast starter. The "1 vial/pack is good for 5 gallons of beer up to 1.060" holds no water with actual science. It'll make beer, but better beer comes from an ideal pitching rate.

That said, while not ideal, it should still be fine.
