Just a little story about how much it appears that yeast like yeast nutrient. I had a starter of cultered chimay yeast that was humming along nicely, nothign fierce, but yeast in suspension and things proceeding as usual. I was out of yeast nutrient when I initially made and stepped up this starter.

My shipment of nutrient came in yday, so I took two tsp and boiled it in about 4 oz water, cooled it, shook the crap out of it and added it to the starter.

This morning I had starter krausen bubbling out of the top of jug.......

It turns out, yeast nutrient makes yeast happy.

Guess that's why they call it that! Never used it personally, may have to look into it. Thanks!

Just tried nutrient early this week in a starter. I would have to agree, it made the yeast more responsive.

i did a starter of Wyeast belgian witbier with extra light dme and the krausen almost came out the top of the 2000mL EF, i was shocked and watched the flask regularly so i didn't have a mess to clean up
