FYI - for Q1 2025 Wyeast is releasing

1217PC West Coast IPA

No specific details on this one’s origin but I found one post “ I spoke to a BSG rep yesterday at my brewery and he hinted that the west coast IPA strain is from a very popular San Diego based brewery. Based on the yeast specs and his hints I am led to believe this strain is from Stone. But again- that is just word on the street.”

And

2272PC - reputed to be the Christian Schmidt lager strain

I don’t know why Wyeast bothers with Private Collection quarterly releases. Good luck finding them, they’re more and more difficult to find. I thankfully found Budvar #2000 which I’ll harvest.

I agree I don’t like either the PC limited or the White Labs vault ideas. They do it with strains that don’t sell well but there is still some demand for.

I’ve had more luck with the Wyeast PC strains - all you have to do is ask your homebrew store to order it for you on their next order. They’re available for 3 months and any store should be placing an order in that time, with LD Carlson or whoever they get their supplies from. I think even morebeer would get it for you.

I’ve actually had zero luck with the White Labs vault. I’ve never been able to get one of their strains. They’re the worst.

Have you tried ordering through White Lab’s Yeast Man program? You get a heads-up notification when ‘vaults’ are being produced for release to place an order. Last month I was able to get 4 fresh WLP-835x (Andechs) Pure Pitch NextGen sachets delivered right to my door from White Labs when none were available through any of the normal outlets or LHBS. One stop shopping for yeast along with excellent customer support.

Signed up for that something like 4 or 5 years ago. Gave them my credit card number, signed up for 4 or 5 I wanted. Never heard a word, never got one. And I know the ones I wanted have been released more than once. Like I said, they are the worst

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I signed up about a year ago and have had nothing but great experiences from White Labs, although UPS dropped the ball terribly on a recent order. I contacted White Labs and they quickly had the issue sorted out and expedited (shipment was delayed at a UPS hub for over two days; not WL’s fault).

White Labs offered to ship a second order free of charge or cancel the order with full refund within an hour of me notifying them. I chose a reorder which shipped the same day, arriving less than two days later from San Diego to Florida. The original order arrived a day later, intact but the ice pack had melted and yeast was warm (78F), not WL’s fault.

WL customer service emailed me multiple times at every step in the process keeping me informed, and even followed up after delivery to check that everything had worked out to my satisfaction.

In all, a total of 8 sachets of yeast and 10 packages of Clarity Ferm delivered coast to coast including 2nd Day Air shipping for a bit less than $100. I haven’t yet attempted to propagate the yeast from the original order, which may or may not be viable, but I was very satisfied with the customer service outcome. UPS, not so much.
