I'm trying the Propagator pack with a starter for the first time, and I'm trying to figure out how big of a starter I need. If I go by Mr. Malty for a 1.049 OG, I will need 180 b cells. It seems that calc uses Activator packs, so I'm not sure how big of a starter I will need. According to Palmer I think I can get 124 b? in a 2 L starter (I don't have the book with me) from 35 b pack.

Will a 2 L starter be good for a 1.049, or should I go bigger?

At that gravity, a 2L starter should be fine. Pitch into a well aerated/oxygenated wort and you'll be fine.

That's what I was thinking. I've been doing Activators right into the wort, and those have been good. I'm trying to pitch better rates and not underpitch my worts.
