If you want to try it then go for it.

You can brew in just about anything. The better the gear, ingredients, techniques the more chance you have of a good beer.

But saying that, ok beer is better than no beer.:mug:
 
I don't see why you couldn't brew small batches in them. I doubt they would last long but the price is right so it really wouldn't matter that much if the jug becomes unusable. You could even use the water from the jug for the brew.
 
Yes they will work.
You can just steal the 5 gal carboys from work and they will work as well.

I was at a store in DE called Kitchen & Co. They had 5 gallon glass "Water bottles" for $14 each. You could always look for a store like that and use them. I would think their longevity would be better than the plastic unless you drop it.
