I just kegged a brew where I used White Labs WLP001 for the first time. While racking I noticed the trub looked different than I am used to. Normally I find a sludgy yeast cake but this time I found the bottom of an aquarium.

Is this normal for this strain of yeast? (in need of a sanity check)

It smelled good and looked fine so I continued on and put it into the fridge to force carb anyway.

I don't recall seeing that with any Chico derivative before, but I've seen it with *highly* flocculent English strains. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen with Chico (which certainly flocc's strongly). If it tastes and smells fine I wouldn't be concerned.

Seriously, that's an awesome photo. I've been hanging around this dump for awhile now and can't recall an image so vivid of a rather unusual yet apparently benign finish...

Cheers!
