I don't have enough wine bottles to bottle all of this years harvest;
How bad would it be to bottle the excess in extra beer bottles?

Comments?

I just started winemaking and have 2 batches in 12oz beer bottles. Once you get over the fact it's not traditional there are a lot of advantages.
For me 12oz is a better size, 2 glasses and you don't have a half bottle oxidising once it's open. The bottle caps seal better than a screw on lid and I didn't need to buy any cork sealing hardware. Plus the beer bottles fit better into my fridges and storage boxes. And the brown color is probably better to protect from light, if that is a thing.

I have done this many times when racking.
12 oz of wine is a good portion, easier to store and I always have an abundance of beer bottles.
As long as you don't have an issue with it.

I opened a 750 bottle of wine the other day, and had a glass. A little later another glass , then finished it off. My wife sees the empty bottle and says "did you drink the whole bottle?" I said yes. She says "you drink too much" Ha! I tell her "it is a single serving bottle!"
And yes I use clear and green beer bottles. I'd rather give 12 oz away than 750.

I still have almost four cases of the older heavier glass Pilsner Urquell bottles to give away. I think the OP lives to far away to make a trip here worthwhile.

Yes, I think you are correct! However, I have my own pet favorite bottles which I keep an eye on their specs; your comment about weight made me curious; how much do the two types of PU (sorry!couldn't resist) weigh?

I didn't weigh the bottles. The weight difference was obvious holding a new bottle and the old one. The new ones are also taller which means adjusting the bench capper for each one.
