So according to Untappd I’ve had this beer 28 times prior to today, and I’m fairly certain it is more than that. For the very first time, I picked up notes of coriander this evening.

I have a VERY strong dislike for coriander, which is why I tend to avoid Hefeweizen styles as it seems to be common amongst the ones I’ve had.

So I’m hoping someone out here in this forum can tell me why, whether I’m just imagining it as an off occurrence but perhaps more importantly which malt and/or hop or combo to avoid if I don’t want do duplicate this in my own fledgling homebrewing escapades.

I’ve now had two from the same 6’r so I don’t think I’m imagining it. Seriously bummed as I was planning on supplementing the stout I’m due to rack this weekend with a keg of it.

Hops: Pacifica, Simcoe, Mosiac, Pekko, Galaxy
Malt: Pale 2-Row, White Wheat
Adjuncts: Rolled Oats

Is it possible this is you?

Have to say Googling shows literally one sole intimation of coriander in this beer...other than the above :D
Never had the pleasure myself...

Cheers!

Hefeweizens don't have coriander, you might be confusing them with their Belgian cousins, witbiers.

Could the beer flavour you dislike actually be clove? That's common in hefeweizens. If so, it's typically a yeast derived flavour - avoid phenolic yeasts.

Hey all, appreciate the feedback. I didn’t enjoy the beer for the first time, so that was disappointing.

As far as calibration of taste buds, anything is possible but I don’t mind clove, coriander I know I don’t like. I have a bottle in the spice cabinet and popped it open to verify. No question.
