Why God, Why?

Wonder what Billy does about this verse:

"Jer 35:2 Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink."

or this one:

"Ecc 9:7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works."

And just so there's no confusion, it comes from the root Hebrew word which translated means "to seize, dispossess, take possession off, inherit, disinherit, occupy, impoverish, be an heir"...in other words, the effect of intoxication.

And yes, you see "God hates alcohol"...because he invented it? The only thing I recall God having grief over creating was mankind. And that was simply because many people do evil to one another.

My pastor told me that he sees nothing in the bible that says drinking alcohol is a sin. But he has seen what the effects of drinking do to families, and is not in favor of it. Oh I'm baptist by the way.

Paul even told Timothy to take a little wine for his bad stomach.

Oh and the President being a recovering alcoholic might agree that alcohol is evil.

But he has seen what the effects of drinking do to families, and is not in favor of it.

That is the point that I think needs to be clearly conveyed in all of this. I don't think anyone would (or can) deny that overindulgence of alcohol causes health problems, and can become an serious addiction for some that are not able to control it, turning into a nightmare for themselves and family.

What I really think happens is that when a person elevates the outward appearance of who they are beyond the inward persona, they need a tangible way to gauge their spirituality so the default is to call out easily recognizable things...such as drinking, smoking, etc.

I think a good way to approach life is to be honest to oneself in everything. I know, it's easier said than done. When you do this, I think you realize that everyone is capable of doing wrong, we all know this if we are honest with ourselves. Then, when we realize this, we have no need to condemn others for failing at doing what is right but rather have the ability to provide help to those that need it.

VERY well put. Ironically that's a philosophy I learned through Catholic High School religion classes....... and it's also the reason I am no longer a practicing Catholic
