I’ve seen a thread or two that died out but I thought I tried to get it going again. A thread where people can post what they are brewing and also get help if they run into a problem on brew day.

Looks like I’ll start. Two brews today;

1) Lavender NEIPA
2) Single hop pale ale with galaxy

Reply, thanks brother. One beer whirlpool second one is mashing in

Planned brew day tomorrow...but bonus time this afternoon with cloudy coolish weather in South Florida. My ferm chamber opens up at 5PM (Wry Smile IPA force carb) so why not get a jump on it. Midway through the boil on my "meme" IPA (Medusa, Ekuanot, Motueka, El Dorado). West coast style with dry yeast (05). Excited to try the Rye IPA...

I love rye IPAs. I do a black rye ipa that I named “Night RYE’der”

Hey all checking in . Brewing a Belgian Wit today. 5.5 gallons and using the new updated Grainfather app which is working good so far. 50 min left in a 90 min mash.

Most of my beer names are music related . Either measures or skngs. This one I named
Amarillo Wit I'll Be .

Brewed a Nelson/Simcoe IPA today.

Tried a few new things. Since I live at such high elevation my hop utilization is terrible and I think it’s actually worse than what I was calculating.... sooo I tried to make something really bitter today, we’ll see.

Also after listening to Vinnie speak recently how they have eliminated whirlpool hopping and moved all those hops to the hopback. I’ve had a hop rocket for two years and never used it so I added 4oz of Simcoe leaf and chilled my wort to 180 before sending it through the hops.

Also tried krausening the wort with a beer I brewed 2 days ago that was at high krausen today. Transferred 1 gallon into the 5 gallons of wort I brewed today. Interested to see how it works. Nice not to have to deal with yeast at all today.

Trying out Steam Beer yeast fermented warm for these IPAs as well.

Did you locate any 2019 Nelson yet? Just saw tree house did Bright with Nelson two weeks ago so I’m hoping the new crop will be available for HBers soon

Brewing again today. Its been really difficult for me with time the last few brews with our baby becoming more mobile. So I was really intrigued by @PianoMan posts and @deadwolfbones article on a no boil, extract NEIPA. I’m turning my base grain bill into DME and will also be steeping some grains. Going to use Kviek - Omega 091. Hoping this turns out just as good or close to the original all-grain recipe. If so it will def allow me to brew more often until my sons old enough to be entertained for an extended period of time.

I'm also wondering about 2019 Nelson. Tired Hands cranked out a few Nelson beers recently, too.

I have 3 kids (just had #3 last Friday) and what has really helped me Brew is prep everything day before (salts, water volumes and grains in mill ready to go), then brew after everyone has gone to bed. It’s a sacrifice (of sleep), but everyone wins in my book since I can totally focus on either family or brewing rather than splitting attention.

Congrats on the addition to your family! [emoji482]
Sounds like you have things dialed in.

Congrats!!! I’d love to do that but our bedroom is right over the garage and I’m not the most graceful man lol

Emailed Yakima Valley about the 2019 New Zealand hop supply:

“Great to hear from you and thank you for the kind words!

The kiwi hops tend to be slower than the Aussie hops for some reason. So they should be available in a month or so.

We have a good supply of Motueka, Waiti, Nelson Sauvin, Wakatu, Waimea, Gem, Jade, and a couple others.”

I asked about release date, selection and how they’d release (didn’t specify last one) and not sure what a couple others means.

Better save those $$$ boys and girls!

Edit: asked about Riwaka and confirmed yes on that one too!!

So I did end up brewing the no boil DME NEIPA Using only Mosiac.
6 lbs Pilsner lite DME
3 lbs golden lite DME
1 lb Bavarian wheat DME
2 lb flaked barely steeped

Using Omega - 091 kviek Horndival(spelling)
Og. 1.078
Fg. 1.014

76 hours of fermentation and 24 to clean up. Pitched 1/2 the pack and Ran it at 95 and let it free fall to 88 to clean up.

Just started the soft crash to drop yeast and will do the first DH tomorrow 3oz pellet & 1 oz cryo. I’ll repeat that 2 days later and give it 1.5 days and then I’ll cold crash and force carb.

As of know doesn’t taste any different then a all grain. No bs. I never like to judge mouthfeel til the carb is set. But so far so good

Yo yo! Checking in Gents and Ladies . Brewing a Pumpkin Ale . So I cant connect my Grainfather app for some dang reason. I ain't letting that stop me though lol. I'm happy to be brewing !

Brewing, but just having one of those days. First was out of yeast. Waiting for the HBS to open. Check grain before I leave the house just to be sure. I was out of Munich. Get to the HBS, no Munich.
Get home. Measure out grain, put it in the mill. Rollers get bogged down. Drill flips the mill off the bucket, spilling grain everywhere.
Finally get the mash going. Stiring with my plastic spoon. Spoon breaks...
I'm afraid of what else might happen before I finish.

Brewed a 5 gal batch of an Irish Red...turned out looking pretty.

  • 6 oz (4.1%) Crystal 60
  • 4 oz (2.7%) Special B
  • 2 oz (1.4%) Roasted Barley
  • 1 oz Kent Goldings 60 min
  • 0.5 oz Kent Goldings 20 min
  • Wyeast 1084 – Irish Ale

Somewhat hoppy American Wheat today. Loosely inspired by Gumballhead I guess.

55% Rahr 2 Row
40% Mecca White Wheat
5% Carahell

Hopshot at 90 for 20 IBUs
Bells’s Select Amarillo @ 20
German T-45 Amarillo @ WP
Amarillo Leaf In Hopback

Small DH will be blend of the Bell’s amarillo and the German T-45.

Added some sour wort at KO to lower pH a bit. Only ever done this for lagers.

First time using wlp030. Waited forever to get it out of the vault. Seems like a better version of 1968 to me.. we’ll see.
