My German Lager X yeast finally arrived in the mail from the White Labs Vault! :) I was out of town when it arrived, so my roommate put it in the fridge for me. He said he found it in the mailbox, and wasn't sure how long it was there. I checked the tracking number, and it supposedly was in the mailbox for only an hour. Anyway, the packet is super inflated and tight. Is this a bad sign?

It definitely could have gotten warm. Not sure where you're living, but that could be the case. Make a healthy starter and it should be okay. How was it packaged? On ice? Did you have the choice to get it on ice?

It had a cold pack inside the foam mailer. It has been warm here lately, so I'm definitely concerned about the viability.

If it's in the new white packaging, they are typically "plump" to begin with. It's a semipermeable plastic that is literally cut from their bioreactors that they grow the yeast in now. I've seen it first hand at Ehite Labs and it's quite impressive. All the ones I have received have been like this and I have seen no signs of ill effects. Rest easy

That's good to hear! I haven't used white labs since they were still using the vials.
