I'm shocked there isn't a whiskey thread on here, or if there is I can't find it.

I love whiskey. Of all kinds. I am partial to bourbons but I don't discriminate.

I have a decent little whiskey bar. (terrible pic LOL)

I know there are at least a few whiskey aficionados here. What do you guys like?

I wouldn’t call myself an aficionado but I like your choice of Evan Williams BIB. I like Wild Turkey 101 and Rare Breed. Nothing too fancy. For scotches, I really like Islays and Talisker.
101 is in one of the decanters and there's a bottle of rare breed in my pic!!

I was in a scotch club for a bit but it got pricey!!

I'm no afficionado either, I like bourbon, Woodford reserve is my go to and occasional splurge on four roses small batch or private selection. Scotch is next in line, usually have some 15 year or more glenfiddich on hand for a special occasion or whatever, takes me a while to finish a bottle. And naturally I usually have a bottle of jameson on hand. Oh and this bottle that I literally only get out for the most important of occasions, unfortunately there's only a couple nips left.

I’m not a big liquor drinker, but I know what I like.
Bourbon - Clyde May’s
Rye - Bulleit
Irish - Old Bushsmells
Scotch - Balvenie Double Wood, Glenrothes, Lagavulin
Used to be the peatier the better but I’m digging the Speyside stuff more these days.
Lagavulin is like lamp oil without a little water to open it up.

I like Irish whiskeys. Have bottles of Redbreast, Green Spot, and Bushmill's 10 year on hand.

I also like some Canadian ryes. Picked up a couple last road trip up there. Went into a liquor store next to our hotel in Edmonton and asked the proprietor for some recommendations of whisky I won't find in the U.S. and picked these 2. Turns out the store owner knows his whisky.

Here’s a couple of solid ones. Since I’ve been able to find the Heaven Hill, it’s quickly becoming a favorite. The Devil’s Creek is out of Mammoth, CA. I got it as a gift, and I’m really liking it. The Oregon Spirit Rye is probably my favorite rye so far, and I’ve had their Wheat Whiskey that I really enjoyed neat.

Go-to mid shelf would be Knob Creek and bottom shelf would be Evan Williams

I've had some high-end añejo tequilas lately that were surprisingly whiskey-like.

Im trying to learn more about tequila and mezcal.

Heaven hill is awesome!!

I think this may be definitive evidence that we are doomed as a species.

My brother had me drinking some crap called screwball peanut butter whiskey in Vegas. After like 4 I didn't care what it tasted like. I've never had a worse hangover in my life.

Most spirits get more whiskey like if you age them in/on oak.

If you're ever on Maui, check out the Waikulu agave farm and distillery. They have some top notch barrel aged (not) tequilas (because they are not made in Mexico.)

I play in a whiskey fantasy football league and I got second place.

One of the guys flaked on paying up so another player sent me some samples as a make up.

Im sampling a Thomas H Handy tonight coming in at a stout 126.9 proof (62.45%). Not as hot as the proof would suggest. Brown sugar, vanilla caramel, and spice. Very nice indeed!!

Most partial to the smokiest scotches, but like variety as well. Usually have a bourbon and rye choice on hand. Currently have a local bourbon and wheat (not same distillery), a couple Lagavulins, and a Laphroaig.
My wife got me the Laphroaig Lore for my birthday in October..normally my scotches hang around for years...but this one is about 3/4 gone. Not as smokey as Lagavulin but still a great sipper. I will be buying again

Another favorite. Distilled in 1966.. I can almost taste the lead from the car exhaust in the air View attachment 873081

When did 83 Proof (41.5% ABV) become "cask strength"? I have been laboring under the impression that cask strength was typically in the 110 - 120 Proof (55% - 60% ABV) range. Have I been misinformed?

Brew on :mug:

I had to look out up and typically yes you are right, but it doesn't have to be higher Proof.

Learn something new everyday!!
