Hey guys, its so long since I've brewed a mead or a wine.

I recently made a 4.5 litre batch that's just came to the end of the primary fermentation. at 6.5%, its really sweet and I'm looking to flavor it in secondary.

I've soaked 4 diced pears in Jack Daniels and they're entirely saturated, smelling great. I plan to add the left over whiskey and whiskey soaked pears to the mead and leave for a month or so.

Is there any way I could work out the ABV on this one, since I'm mixing a distilled spirit and a un-distilled wine?

Cheers guys.

what was this made with that allowed it to stop with significant residual sweetness at 6.5%?

To get ABV "close enough" just use the % that is volume of the pears, volume of the JD, and volume of the mead and their alcohol contents of 0%, 40%, and 6.5%, respectively. if the ratio is 90% mead with an approximately equal volume of JD and pears alcohol will be in the high 7's. I seriously doubt it's worth figuring out exactly how much juice is in your pear to get it more accurate.
