Hello,
Yesterday was my first time using Whirfloc. I added it 5 minutes before the end of the boil... and at the time i chilled the wort.... all the hops, proteins, pholyphenols started to sediment ... but the big problem was that separating the clear wort with all the trub was difficult... so i ended with a lot of trub in my fermenter.
What can i do to prevent this?? does the whirfloc still has the effect on my fermentation vessel? This would be very effective which a Whirpool but for the home brewers how is this possible??

pd: i took the beer out with a siphon

thanks,
MM

whirfloc is supposed to do what you witnessed. Don't stress about moving the sediment into the fermenter, a lot of us do that. It'll all settle out in the bucket...if you're still concerned, cold crash for a couple of days before bottling/kegging.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Trub in the FV is fine... whirlfloc still binds those protiens in the FV and it does cause it to drop out much more clear than without it.

Based on my observations, that is.

I use a pill splitter to halve the Whirlfloc tablets. That's the proper size for 5 gallons. I let the wort settle after the last bit of stirring while in the ice bath. Then pour through a fine mesh strainer into primary. When I top off with well chilled water to drop the temp from 75F to about 65F, it also produces some cold break, which settles out & compacts on the bottom.
