Austin Homebrew has free shipping for some of their most popular kits. I want to make a stout over the summer to drink (and possibly gift) this winter.

Have you had either the "Double chocolate stout" or "Oatmeal stout ale"? Trying to decide between those.

Although I probably could be convinced to brew the Deception cream stout I've read about on HBT.

I brewed the Deception cream stout here from HBT. It is absolutely the best beer I've made. Fantastic. Brew it... you won't be sorry.

Extract or all grain? I'll be doing an extract stout (or partial mash). Did you do anything different from the posted recipe?

I made it by BIAB, which is an all-grain method. There is an extract version posted. If you want to do a partial mash, just use the all grain recipe and sub some DME for 2-row.

1 pound grain = .6 pounds DME = .8 pounds LME.
