Hi,

I'm currently in the US and I'd like to get some inexpensive gear for all grain brewing. What online store would you recommend or what kit would you suggest?

Thanks

I happen to do BIAB so the main issue here is to get a pot large enough to hold your mash. I prefer the so-called full volume mash, which means I mash in with all my grains and water all at once. I bought one of these Bayou Classic 44 quart SS pots off of Craigslist, and it can handle most full volume 5 gallon brews: https://www.bayouclassicshop.com/products/bay-1144 (ignore that price: it is frequently on sale for much less, ~$45). So that really leaves you with picking up a burner plus the standard brewing kit including fermenting vessel, siphoning parts, bottles and capper. Morebeer is a good source for that stuff, which they sell as whole kits, and they ship free for orders over $59. Let me know if you want more details.

Brew international has reasonable prices. They are out of Kansas or somewhere in that general vicinity. From what I have gathered they do a lot to keep overhead down and their prices reflect that.

Once you get a handle on the process you are most interested in (BIAB for example), I have found goodies on Craigslist from folks who went into homebrewing and lost interest for some reason or another. I found a Blichmann 20G kettle on CL for one half of the selling price....and the kettle was still in the unopened box.

I'm not suggesting you'll find the bulk of your equipment on CL, but its good to keep your eyes open for super deals. Also this site has a section for items being offered for sale.

Also worth checking out if there's a local home brew shop in your area. Standard prices might be a bit more than online, but a couple of stores near me carry a pretty big variety of used gear for really cheap. Plus most places are super friendly if you have questions.
