Hope to start soon my first all grain batch and I am looking to buy a converted cooler to use as mash tun. Anyone know where the best place (preferably affordable too) is to order from?

I second the DIY route. I got all my stuff from home depot and Target. In total it cost me $40 or so. If you buy one pre made, it will be at the very least $100 from what I've seen online for cooler types. More expensive for SS ones.

I agree with the others and would just build one. I picked up a 48 quart Coleman cooler ($25), put in a SS hose braid from a water heater supply line ($9), a SS ball valve ($15) and a few fittings to put it all together ($10?).

One if the things I really dig about the mash tun I built is the braid. The mesh on it is pretty tight so I can crush super fine without risking a stuck run-off.

I bought mine from Northern Brewer a few years ago because for some reason big coolers were CRAZY expensive at the time and the Fermenters Favorites 10 gallon unit was on sale. I've been happy... reasonably sturdy, and drops maybe one degree during a 60 minute mash. It's really nice, which is weird to say because every single other thing by Fermenters Favorites that I bought has been hot garbage.

It's literally just a big Coleman style cooler with a ball valve where the pushbutton spigot would normally go, though, so if you can get a food safe ball valve and fittings, by all means DIY it.

Probably won't find the stainless you need local
I'll plug brewhardware.com for that
Check Craigslist for coolers
I got a 120qt Coleman extreme for $30. High gravity 12g batches are not an issue.

My parents had surprised me with a two stage setup cooler converted to mashtun. I looked it up and it cost $215!!! Very greatful for it but I know I could have made it for much cheaper. All the components can be found at your local hardware store. The strainer can be purchased on amazon.
