I recently made a bastard child beer, a mad scientist approach if you will, with some ingredients I had lying around that I wanted to use up before the went bad and attempted adding real fruit for the first time.
I started with a partial mash of flaked oats and flaked wheat. Added this to my boiling pot along with 4 lbs of pilsen malt and 1 oz. of Vanguard pellet hops (in place of hallertau). 30minutes into the boil I added 1 cup of pureed bannana. With fifteen minutes left I added 4 lbs of bavarian wheat liquid malt. With 2 miutes left I added 1/2 oz of vanguard pellet hops. I then added another 1/2 oz of vangaurd hops for dry hopping to the primary fermenter.
Just bottled this past weekend and smells great! Good color but high alcohol content. Also tried the party pig for the first time anxious to see how it works.
My question is, was it OK to add the fruit to the boil or should I have added it to the primary or secondary fermenter?
Next Up: Amber Mexican Cerveza & Sam Adams Summer Ale Clone
Conditioning: Bastard Belgian Hefe
Drinking: Hoegarden Clone & a Holiday Ale
