Took these pictures today as I see more and more holes popping up each day. The first two pictures are of the same bug.

Aphids don't chew - they literally don't have the equipment.
They suck - very hard ;)

I don't know what that critter in the 2nd picture is, might just be an incidental, but I'd definitely keep an eye on that caterpillar...

Cheers!

They look like aphids to me, I'd either buy an insecticidal soap of just make a soapy water solution and spray them if it starts getting out of hand

I've had good success with using ladybugs. Can get them in a dormant state at a graden store. Release them on the plant once they wake up and they eat all the aphids, lay eggs and then they cycle starts again.

I had lady bug guardians all summer.

I've been battling aphids in a cherry tree using garlic/dish soap spray with some success. (crush a few garlic cloves, steep in hot water to get oils out, use that water poured into a spray bottle through a strainer, add 6 or 8 drops of dish soap and spray away) If you do have aphids, make sure you spray the underside of the leaves (where they like to eat). The soap/garlic sprays are a general insect spray, so they will also chase away the beneficial insects (like ladybugs). A soap spray will also need to be re-applied after a rain storm since it will wash off.

Some people use crushed tomato leaves in their steep as well, but I haven't tried that.

Decided to get ladybugs. Added them today, so I'll watch it over the next week and see if more holes pop up. Some leaves are full of them and others only have a single. Also starting to effect my second hop plant that is lagging behind.
