I work at a bar and may be able to get a great deal on our used kegs, but I'm not sure what the proper names for them are. They are your standard bar kegs where the coupler twists on to lock in place. From looking online I THINK these are Sanke(sp) kegs, can someone tell me for sure? If they are can I use them for homebrew? I read that most people use Cornelius kegs, but I can't tell if they are required or if it's personal preference.
 
If they're typical kegs they're sanke. Home brewers typically prefer cornie kegs bc they are easy to fill, clean, and sanitize and they have a 5 gallon volume.

That's not to say that there aren't some good alternative uses for your run of the mill BMC Sanke keg:
