I responded to a post on Craigslist for homegrown hops. A generous person practically gave me 5 lbs of hops. He said they were a weak version of Cascades.

Two 1 pound packages were labeled 2011. both were dried in vacuum sealed packages. He recommended using them with 2-3 times what a recipe would normally call for. Any ideas? I've been brewing all grain for less than 2 years & would appreciate any ideas.

The other 3 pound packages were from 2014. They were not dried like the others before they were vacuum sealed.

I was thinking a DIPA or a Smash IPA??

You could try following his advice, or... if you have the patience you could maybe use those for a lambic.

My concern in using 2 to 3 times the amount you normally would is that those hops are going to suck up A LOT of your wort.

Those are pretty old. You could open them up, place them in paper bags someplace warm for another 6-12 months and use them for lambic hops!
