Does it go bad? It's been in my primary with only a little bit of wart/beer left in it for about 5 days after the majority has been transferred to my secondary.

FWIW, I will often plan my brewing so that I make a smaller beer first than a larger beer with the same yeast. I don't "wash" the yeast but swirl it around with the remaining beer and pour into a large, sanitized Ball jar. I store the jar in the fridge, for a week or at the most two. I typically use the whole jar in the 'big' beer and don't use a starter.

Agreed, brew and put the new Wort on top of the cake. Harvest it and save it for next time. Or toss it.
