What size/type of thread is on corny keg posts?

Does anyone know what sort of threads are on the posts for corny kegs?

this is for a side project not related to brewing but i want to be able to connect directly to the keg. basically, replace the poppet fitting with a different fitting.

i tested at the hardware shop and it dosent fit any of the NPT threads

There are several different thread sizes. Depends on the manufacturer. One I'm sure of is 5/8-18. I removed the post from the keg and found the correct bolt. That one was not a pipe thread. You may be able to do the same with the keg you are working with.
