What should I brew?

I have a bunch of friends coming back from Iraq sometime between the end of spring and the end of summer (they don't know for sure yet) and I would like to brew a batch or two for them to drink when they get back.

I just can't figure out what I should brew. I'd like to do something partial mash (I've really only done extract this far) and I'd like it to be a lighter more late spring/summer style beer. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do (including the recipes)? I'm also working on a limited budget so that would be something to keep in mind.

A Koelsch is always a good bet for an inexpensive summertime beer. The recipe in Brewing Classic Styles is a good starting point. To convert that recipe to partial mash, use all the specialty malt the recipe calls for and add however much base malt your equipment can handle. Then make up the rest with Pilsner DME.

How about Beirmuncher's Centennial Blonde Ale recipe? It is a very good summertime beer, and very cost effecient also, It's a very good, crisp beer, you can find it in the recipe section, I highly recommend it, and tell the guys thanks for their service.
