My basement is in the mid 50's. Is there a yeast that likes this temp? If so, what style(s) should I try? - extract

I may be able to get It a few degrees cooler, by selecting a particular spot.

Get some s23 yeast and make a lager. This yeast can go a little warmer for lagering. 50-55 is where I kept my lager though and it turned out to be a really good beer.

Thanks, I picked up a Cali common/ steam beer & wyeast 2112 from my lhbs - grape and grainery-, and its cooling down in the sink as I type. I'd like to try harvesting the yeast for another batch, any recipe suggestions? Looking to venture away from kits and to good proven recipes...... maybe a dortmunder( love great lakes) or another lager? , or a simple blonde or a kolsch?..... Need "family friendly" suggestions.....still open to ideas for the 2nd primary bucket.

I would do a dortmunder, I love great lakes dortmunder also. That and because its also a stlye I havent brewed yet.

Wrap a blanket around it and use some Notty for the crispest and cleanest ale I have ever made.

Nottingham dry ale yeast works quite nicely (and clean tasting) down to 55*F. If you can pitch and hold it there 4-5 days before putting it somewhere warmer (mid-60's) to finish, you will be pleased.

How does safe ale s-04 do at these lower temps? I have a few packages that came out of kits where I used liquid yeast... if I hear positive I may try a simple & cheap blonde or light ale as my first not from kit recipe.

I don't believe that you'll get a good, active ferment with S-04 that cool.
