I guess there will be a ****-ton of slightly used equipment pop up in the classified. I'm pretty well invested and I'm still stuck in Afghanistan and have never even touched a brew pot.

So far:
  • MM stainless steel shanks, 4 ea
  • MM SS Tailpieces, 8 ea
  • MM wing style coupling nuts, 8 ea
  • 10# CO2 tank
  • MM premium double gauge regulator
  • MM premium 4 gauge secondary regulator
  • 50' gas & 50' beer line
  • Perlick 425S, 4 ea
  • Used ball lock kegs, 4 ea
  • MM SS D sanke coupler
  • MM SS S-coupler
  • various keezer odds and ends
  • Northern Brewer Deluxe starter kit
  • Basic brewing kit (found on CL after I orderd the deluxe kit)
  • 24 cu ft chest freezer ($200 CL find)
  • Love temp controller
  • Norther Brewer Bourbon porter extract kit
  • Northern Brewer three Hearted extract kit (Bell's clone)

All in all, I'm in pretty deep financially. I really hope I enjoy it :mug:

I'll finally be home in a couple weeks, though. At the very least, it will keep me occupied for a week or so while I'm readjusting ;)

When I was in Kosovo in 2000, I joined ebay and bought a new part for my Mitsubishi Eclipse almost every day. Very few of them ever ended up on the Eclipse! I know how you feel right now.

HOPEFULLY, you enjoy homebrewing more than I enjoyed working on my car. Be safe until you get out of there.

If you like beer then you should not have a problem becoming obsessed like most of us here! Read up on brewing until you get home, How to Brew online is a great source of info and of course this site! It can sound very overwhelming but in reality it is not hard at all to make great beer.

If you find you don't really want to brew by all means please send me your equipment. I will make sure it finds a great home:D

Make it home safe whatever you do and we all look forward to hearing about your brewing efforts ASAP!

You'll dig it. I didn't like it for the first couple of batches because it was a little stressful at first. Once you get a process going and a couple batches in your belly all will be good. You also have some great equipment waiting for you..

Thanks for what you do BTW!

Well you are already used to hurry up and wait so homebrewing won't be a problem. And then you get to drink your results. Oh, and hey, since you are at the airfield could you pick me up a spool or two of flightline?? Semper Fi

I've been planning on home brewing for quite a while. Been saving bottles. That sorta thing. I forgot to mention I also have hundreds of bottles and a 5 drawer side pull filing cabinet for bottle organizing. lol

Maybe i should have started brewing a long time ago and progressively built myself up. Oh well...jumping in with both feet is what i do, I guess...lol

Looks like your good to go on the brewing front. Just get home safe and invest some time in a few batches and I'm sure you'll be hooked like the rest of us. thanks for your service. Cheers!

Well if you're anywhere near Lancaster PA when you get home you're more than welcome to dip into my pipeline until you get your own going. And if you don't like brewing we'll work something out ;)

Be safe and God Bless.

I'm jealous that you have kegging equipment, I wish I had room for a good kegerator. I doubt you won't like it, you shouldn't even have to bottle, and from what I hear that's the most tedious part.

If you don't like homebrewing you'll still have all you'll need for a killer kegerator.

Other beer can be served through that hardware... ;)

And if you don't like beer, you're set for cider, wine, mead or any number of other things. Homemade root beer. Homemade ginger ale. Homemade marijuana brew (if and when it becomes legal in a person's particular locale). Tons of uses for brew equipment! :)

Enjoy the process, Enjoy the beer and enjoy being home and watching the world spin from a safe vantage point. Don't be in too big of a hurry to join this madness. Sit back and have a few nice cold home brews.

No matter what I'll have my keezer ;)

I'm sure I'll enjoy brewing quite a bit.

I'm trying to decide on the commercial brew for while I wait for my pipeline to open up. A D and S coupler. Decisions, decisions, decisions :mug:

I've already pondered brewing during my next deployment. Did I say that out loud? Maybe what I meant to say is I might have some Ale-8s or Root Beer in the fridge that might have funny looking blank caps on them...that I don't share with anyone...lol

I think I'll have to try that coffee pot deal. I'll have about two years to perfect it before a practical field application ;)

Once you get a few brews under your belt you'll be hooked. Oh yeah, on your way home you will probably have a layover in Ireland. Make sure and toss back a few of local beers to wash some of that sand out. :D

I've already heard Germany. I'm hoping for Ireland, though.

At the end of my last deployment, the bar was being renovated. Looks pretty nice. They did have a beer stand open. I had my "two beer limit." ;) It was good times until some bitch from the US Embassy found our commander and informed him that we were not to be drinking.

It was OK, though. Because my buddy didn't buy a pint of Irish whiskey and the two of us did not sit at the back of the plane and kill it. Good times.

If don't head through there, my wife got two full cases of Guinness for my first Father's Day. I do love that bee...um....woman :D

Firstly, thank you for your service, and secondly, you WILL love this hobby, I have faith! I was skeptical at first, but by the time I put my grains in the boiling water I was giddy with the fact that I was creating beer, something that man has been doing for generations. I just tasted my first brew and all of the waiting and babying it was totally worth the investment!

Someone asked me how much money it saves me, and I responded "I"m not sure...probably none, but it's fun!"

It was just put out that we are not allowed to have any drinks. Even when we are briefed and told we are, we are not. My CO is a ****** like that. He likes to let us know well in advance that he is in control and what privileges he is revoking.

In Manas, we'll be authorized two beers, but he is not allowing it.
At Camp Atterbury,we'll be authorized a 50 mile travel radius, but he is confining us to base.
At Camp Atterbury, our family will be allowed to come visit us, but he is forbidding it.
Also at Camp Atterbury, we'll be authorized to drink under the standard Army regs (not within so many hours of duty, blah blah blah), but our CO is forbidding that, as well.

So no beer, freedoms, or family.

Damn, you'll be at Atterbury and you can't have any visitors? Man, I could come deliver you some of my Simple Wheats, if only... :(

If you figure out a way, message me when you'll be there and I'll do what I can.

Hang in there, he can only stiff arm ya for sooo long. Before you know it, you'll be home. My sons getting warmed up for his play time in the sandbox. Supposed to deploy two weeks ago, pulled all his privledges and keep barrack hopping (that would be cool if it included real hops). Last tine he was home, he helped me cap my first batch of beer... Know I gotta find away to send him some or a coffee pot brew kit. Any thoughts on a micro recipe guys?

Germany is not bad I stopped there 4 times on the way in and out of Afghanistan. I forget what airfield we stopped at but we always made a trip to the class six and stopped in the woods to have a couple of beers and then back to the airfield again.

Dunno about shipping beer but my old man makes quite a bit of wine. On my brother's last deployment he kept getting Welch's grape juice shipped to him from home. :mug:

Just got two more shipping confirmations. The only thing left to have shipped is my 10# CO2 tank. I'm not sure why it wasn't shipped with the rest of my stuff, but the beverage factory box was already 45# so that might be why. I dunno...lol...
