i didn't think you needed a bag for a manifold? as long as the slits are fine enough, (i.e hax saw width). i use a bazooka tube in my round cooler, no problems with sparge.....

should drain, and as far as first draw having bits in it...that's what a vorlauf is for...i think?

Prepping for tomorrow's brew day.
It will be a 2 batch day (Dunkel and Rauchbier) as well as a 5 gallon batch of Sauergut.
Going to purge the spunding/serving kegs with fermentation gas and see how that goes.
The sauergut will be split into two 2.5 gallon kegs with one using the grain innoculation method and one getting a dose of pure L. brevis.

Took all the hoses off a used stainless triple tower and polished it up with barkeepers friend.

For some reason, even after soaking two days in 1 Step, one of the beer lines still smelled like cigarettes.

Bottled 30 bombers of "Black Cap Belgian quad". Ended up at 11.55 ABV. Might have to quit brewing for a while, I'm just about out of bottles! (or just drink it faster!). Harvested and washed 2 liters of Belgian blend yeast. Right now she who must be obeyed is signifying I should be cleaning up my mess.

lol, don't you lose a point for that? :) (but that beer isle looks better then the sea of BMC i get here in S.AZ)

I have not brewed for 3 weeks now mainly due to the high temps! It’s killing me.’decided to buy a bunch of single IPA’s and a few bottles of tequila since it’s been a while since I have had a margarita.... [emoji482]

lol, i kinda know the feeling...i haven't brewed since 7-1-19...But i have been buying apple juice and adding yeast to it! $3 a twelve pack for 8% is still better then $20...(makes brew day easy too!, but i miss the vitamins...) :D

lol, i'm not driving 1:30 hours, one way, to spend $20 on a twelver.....i must be more south east of tucson then you are north west :)

I put a bottle of my kolsch in the fridge as a carbonation test and it was just right. I only got two sips because my wife crushed the glass in one go and exclaimed that is what she's always wanted from my homebrew. Never in our 18 years together have I seen her crush a beer like that, so I assume it tastes good?

Brewed my first IPA. Definitely not used to that amount of hop materials in the kettle after the boil. Gravity sample tasted good to me though, and I hit my numbers. Got rid of a lot of ingredients, so I can buy more soon!

Also bottled/jarred a gallon of kombucha and racked a few gallons of cider into secondaries.

Full day, but a good day.

Ordered some hops from Ted at Hop Heaven. I owe myself a rebrew for a Cascade APA so I got got some more of those, and I have this thing with Citra right now so I have some more of those coming. Both are 2018 harvest which should get me through until 2019 hops are available.

Brewing a wee heavy today, not going well! First, my new thermometer in the mash tun was like 40° off, (it was reading 110° instead of 150°) so I added more hot water, before figuring out it was the thermometer that was the problem. Ended up with 10 gallons of wort at 1.060, instead of 5.5 gallons at 1.130. Still boiling, down to 6.5 gallons at 1.105.

LATER: Finished up at 5 gallons at 1.120. Chilled oxygenated, pitched, and put to bed. Bed is sounding good to me, been a long day.
