Organized some of my beer and brewing equipment yesterday after buying a new shelf.
Son and swmbo filled up the non working fridge with homebrew.

Swung past the university science supply store for an Erlenmeyer flask. Turns out campus doesn't charge taxes on purchases making it an even better deal. Guess it's the least they could do to make up for having to park for the privilege of shopping there.

I might have to check out my local university can the public just stop in and buy or do you have to be a student?

Transferred saison to secondary and added Brett, then brewed up an imperial black saison. Shot for 5.5 gallons at 1.084, got 6 gallons at 1.090!
The first runnings looked like dirty motor oil.

Finishing up putting things away from NHB day brew. It's just about done with initial fermentation today. Got a saison kit coming in tomorrow...

Since my bottle harvest yeast experiment seems to have fallen flat on it's face, I picked up my first liquid smack pack, Wyeast 3068. This weekend may have impending hefeweizen.

Don't give up on it! My own bottle-harvesting experiment seemed to be entirely unsuccessful for the first five or six days, but yesterday, four days into step two, I saw krausen and active fermentation.

Planned a tour of three LA breweries with some buddies when I visit the weekend after next. Angel City, Eagle Rock and Golden Road. Of course, we'll complete a strenuous hike at Pico in the morning to earn our beer :)

I haven't! I promise, the bar is still making that annoying ticking sound on the bottom of my erlynmeyer flask waiting to show signs of life! But having a backup plan in place is a good policy. I'm sure that 3068 won't mind sitting around another week or two in the fridge, it's among good company, hops.

Ordered most of the parts for my upcoming Jockey Box build. Hopefully it will all arrive next week. I am debating ordering a KegLove as well.

De-labeled some bottles, figured put cap labels on some HB and soon I'll rack my vanilla porter over to the keg for force carbonating.

we finally have a RO system installed!! no more running to the store and buying x amount of water and looking like a weirdo. now to send a sample to wardlabs. cheers

Cleaned out part of my closet to bottle condition in. Unpacked and admired my beautiful new pot!

I just added a 6.5 gallon fermenting bucket to my saved northern brewer cart. What am I doing? I'm supposed to be sticking to 1-2 gallon batches!!!

Bottled a batch of SMaSH ESB (Fuggles), reorganized the beer tools, moved empties to the basement, and left the kitchen cleaner than when I started.

All while dealing with a pinched nerve sending fire and pain down my leg. Since sitting is just as uncomfortable as moving, might as we'll move.

Tonight I dumped a case of cider that was a ticking time bomb. I guess I didn't pasteurize well enough. One exploded the other day and opening all of them slowly and under a towel resulted in 23 other gushers. I've dumped more cider than I've drank. Trashed most of the bottles in case their integrity is compromised by sitting under so much pressure for so long.

That's rather sad.
Kegged a batch of apfelwein tonight in one of the 3 sanitized and cleaned kegs from last night. Lost my notes, but I'm sure there's brown sugar and cinnamon sticks in it. 1.002 at kegging. Wish I knew where my notes are to calculate abv.
Apparently drinking and brewing = losing stuff.

Had one. OK, two. I read four chapters of Steve Hindy's book "The Craft Beer Revolution". I recieved some fittings from BargainFittings.com for a bulkhead/ball valve install on my 10 gal SS pot. I told a coworker how important it is, IMHO, to support local businesses including, and most importantly, micro-breweries in our area. I read some articles (and postings here also) about using a steelhead pump with a plate chiller - yes, I'm going down THAT road now... I read a chapter in the book "Radical Brewing" (author unknown at moment as I'm too damn lazy to go to basement bathroom and look at it) and now realize that beer is indeed a gift from a benevolent universe thus increasing my respect for beer.

With the exception of loving my family, playing with a grand daughter, going to work and working, doing a bit of cleaning around here (home), pulling some weeds in the yard, showering and other personal care, taking care of our two dogs (feeding, etc) I've pretty much centered my life today around beer. Beer. ...Sigh.

botted apfelwein and black ipa. Washing my yeast and planning out a big northern brewer order.
