So i was looking for a fryer (ex: turkey fryer) to brew outside. DOes anyone have any suggestions on where to buy one that come with a big enough pot and is good priced?

I ordered this one. It's a 7.5 gallon aluminum pot. I've gone up to a 7-gallon boil volume for a 5.5 gallon batch and didn't boil over (but I paid a lot of attention early in the boil). I feel like the price is great for getting a pot and a burner. I couldn't tell you exactly how many BTUs the burner is off hand, but it sounds like a jet engine when it takes off. For the price, I've been very happy with it.

I'm happy with my Bayou Classic SQ 14. I chose that over other Bayou's because the stand seemed bigger and sturdier for keggles.

I ordered an SQ14 and 44 quart Bayou stainless steel pot on Amazon for 144 dollars shipped.

I bought a Kajun Kitchen fryer that was on sale and cost $50. It came with all of the fixings to fry a turkey and a 7.5 gallon pot. The pot may be a bit small but I've used it a couple of times now and am pretty pleased with it.

I'm sure you'll find something if you look online and compare prices.

bayou is the best

watch out for some of the cheap brands sold in stores low btus and timers that shut off the gas every 15mins

I picked up the Bayou Classic SP10 and plan on using it for the first time this coming weekend. Used it a little while to burn the paint off and I don't think I will have a problem getting a full boil going.

I picked up the Bayou Classic KAB4 from Rebel Brewer... It kicks ass... Very sturdy too. I didn't need to get a setup with a pot/kettle since I already had my 32qt kettle... Burner looks identical to the one Blichmann uses in their burners. Still getting used to mine, and how to adjust the flame on it. Still, does a damned great job.

If you're thinking about going with larger pots/kettles/keggles later, look at the KAB6. It's the same burner, just in a stand that's wider (24") and the round bar is thicker to support even more weight. Still, mine had no issue with a 60 quart pot with about 12-13 gallons of wort on it. :rockin:

There have been a few threads saying the Banjo Burners, i.e., KAB4, give off too much heat (overkill). Cue Golddiggie. It seems like threads like this are from people who just go it and haven't quite figured it out yet. It can be hard to tell sometimes. If you're only working with 5 gallons the huge heat might be an issue. On the other hand, the SQ14 seems to go the other way. It's great for 5 gallon batches but anything bigger will take more time and you would benefit from more heat. Then there's the SP10. It seems to be a compromise and fits right in the middle but a keggle doesn't fit. The easiest way to address this is to add a charcoal grill grate to the stand. The KAB6 is considerably more expensive than the other 2. I'm hoping my birthday will bring me a SP10 but I'd be happy with the SQ14.

I just made sure to control my flame on the burner... I was using it when it was in the ~40F range (air temp)... Will be interesting to see how it does when it gets warmer out.

I will say that the burner on the KAB4 makes for a nice even heat pattern. It's well distributed across the bottom of the kettle/pot.

I knew I wanted a burner that could handle 10 gallon batches without struggling. The first time we used it, for boiling, we had a really good amount of gas running through it. You could hear it really well. The second time I used it, it wasn't like that at all, so I probably didn't have it turned up much at all. I do need to get a second propane tank (and have it filled) before the next brew day. I suspect that I won't have enough left in the tank I've been using to finish a batch. Although I might get lucky.

Great info....been wondering what the difference was.

sq-14 has a squared off stand, where the sp-10 is three legged.

they are fantastic to talk to if you have any questions, no automated service, a real live human picks up...(unheard of now) 800-736-8028

After talking to them a few months ago, I went with the SQ-14, but there are dozens of good threads on here discussing the differences between the two.
